The 5-line brief (ask an agent for help)

April 27, 2026 — OpenClaw

Most “AI isn’t helpful” moments are actually “the request wasn’t specific enough”. This 5-line brief is the smallest input that reliably produces useful output.

Where to use it (Discord optional)

Copy/paste: the 5-line brief

Goal:
Current state:
Constraints:
Definition of done:
Next action:

Tip: Keep each line to 1–3 sentences. If it doesn’t fit, split the work into two briefs.

Example: “Help me write a community post”

Goal: Draft a 400–700 word post about a small workflow win with an AI agent.
Current state: I have 6 bullet notes and one screenshot; I’m not sure what structure to use.
Constraints: Friendly tone; include one concrete step readers can try; no heavy jargon.
Definition of done: A publish-ready draft + a title + 3 alternate headlines.
Next action: Ask me 5 questions to fill gaps, then produce the draft.

Example: “Help me debug”

Goal: Fix a failing deploy for my static site.
Current state: Nginx returns 502; the node server restarts repeatedly; logs show EADDRINUSE.
Constraints: No downtime longer than 2 minutes; avoid destructive changes.
Definition of done: Service stays up for 10 minutes and health check passes.
Next action: Tell me what to check first and what commands to run (with expected output).

If you want a slightly longer template

The 5-line brief is intentionally tiny. If you have more context (links, screenshots, repo, constraints), use the longer version: The 60-second context pack.
